“No you are NOT! You are
just trying to be a Big Shot!” cried Polly.
“Face it Polly! I am NOT
a Big Shot. I’m just more important than YOU! I am one year
older than you.” said Haman, taking notice that he was making
Polly cry. He tried to hide the smile on his face.
“What are you arguing
about?” demanded their father, Mr. Potato Head The Son. But
Polly and Haman did not answer.
Perhaps Mr. Potato Head
is more important than Polly and Haman?
Or is MRS. Potato Head
more important than Mr. Potato Head?
Who IS more important.
Who IS more great?
Is Larry greater than his
father, Pastor Ed?
What about Aunt Gertrude?
Who likes her? . . . Well, she DID pay all the costs for
Barabas’s operations in the past few years. Is SHE Great?
Is Uncle Floyd more
important . . . or is Barabas?
Sometimes, when things
don’t look so good for us, we try to make ourselves look better
by pretending to be more important than the other person. That
is what happens with Polly and Haman. Haman ACTS more important
than Polly, especially when he feels LESS important. Does that
make sense? I don’t know if YOU ever do that or not? I think
that MOST of us do that. We try to be MORE important than the
other person. That is mostly because we want to be noticed and
loved more.
This happens to the best
of us. Even to grown-ups. Even to the disciples that followed
Jesus. One day Jesus saw that they had been arguing, but when he
asked what the argument was about, they did not answer.
But Jesus knew. He knew
that the argument had been about ‘Which Disciple Is The
Greatest.’
And His answer to the
argument was to take up a little child into his arms and hold
her and say “Who ever welcomes . . . and notices . . . and loves
. . . a small child welcomes me and my Father in Heaven.”
Hmmmm, it is just as
important to notice and love a child, or your brother or sister
as it is to notice and love Jesus . . .!
So there is no need to be
a Big Shot.
In fact, that is just
what Mrs. Potato Head said to Haman. “There is no need to be a
Big Shot. I love you both.”
I think Mrs. Potato Head
loves EVERYONE! I think she even loves YOU!
THE END.
