“Jesus Heals"
October 15, 2006
By Rebecca Enney

Jesus has come to bring sight to the blind and to unstop the ears of the deaf.

“Oh my, what happened to your leg?” Mrs. Potato Head asked Running Chairs.

“Well, like you know, I was just jumping out in our, you know, in our yard, like over the fences that my brothers always go over, and like, mommy said I am too small, but like my brother said he did it at my age, but my brother you know he has a girlfriend and she has a little sister too, just like my brother, cause you know, I am my brother’s little sister and like she jumped over the fence so I just followed her and we were all jumping cause like you know we are HORSES in my family and horses like to jump and so like I was just being a horse, you know and then I kinda crashed into the fence instead of going over it and like I broke my you know, leg and they took me to the vet and HE said sometimes they used to SHOOT horses with a broken leg, but he did not shoot me cause you can see like that I am HERE and I have a CAST on my leg and it is hard to walk on only three legs, like I don’t know how some, you know, like some of my friends can walk on only TWO legs, but that is why I have you know this CAST on my like leg and my leg HURTS.

Even though Running Chairs’ leg hurts, the vet has indeed helped her leg begin to heal.

Mrs. Potato Head can’t hear without her hearing aid.  She is hearing impaired.  The Hearing Specialist has tested her ears and provided exactly the right hearing aid to help Mrs. Potato Head.  But even WITH the hearing aid, sometimes Mrs. Potato Head can’t hear so well if you talk too fast or too much, like Running Chairs does.

Do you remember Lamar?  He is blind.  His eyes can’t see at all. Well, they can see just a tiny bit of gray light, but that is all.  Lamar’s mother and father took him to all sorts of special doctors when he was a baby.  But the doctors all said the same thing: “Lamar will never see.”  That is why is has a guide dog.  His guide dog’s name is Bill.  Bill is trained to kind of like SEE for Lamar.  He walks right next to Lamar, often touching his side to Lamar.  Bill knows when to cross streets, when there is a big bump in the playground or when there is lots of people on the sidewalk.  Bill sleeps on the floor next to Lamar every night.

Barabas asked me “If Jesus heals, how come Mrs. Potato Head still can’t hear and Running Chairs’ leg still hurts and Lamar is still blind?”

“OHHH” I said.  “You thought that when Jesus HEALS, it means the problem goes away!  You will see that sometimes the problem goes away but sometimes it does NOT go away, but a solution to HELP comes.  The HELP is what Jesus sends to begin the HEALING.”

Barabas looked at me and asked “So sometimes the problem NEVER goes away?”

And I said “All the problems go away for ever when we go to live in heaven with Jesus.  In the meantime, Jesus brings the help we need.  Jesus brings us the Good News of God’s love and sometimes that love comes to us as a guide dog, or a hearing aid specialist or a vet to put a cast on your leg.”

Mrs. Potato Head could not figure out all of what Running Chairs had said.  Barabas saw that and said to her “She broke her leg jumping over a fence.”

“Well!” said Mrs. Potato Head.  “I’m so glad you found a vet that did not shoot you.  That cast is sure to help.  And I will keep you in my prayers Sweetie, that you may be healed.”  THE END
