“Elizabeth Looks at the Earth”
November 11, 2007
By Rebecca Enney

Mr. Mawakasunga and Elizabeth were looking at the globe to find the North West Territories.  That is where Pastor Berry, the man who gave the sermon this morning, that is where he is a pastor.  See, it is way up here in Canada.  The town where Pastor Berry lives is Yellowknife, which is close to the Artic Circle!   Brrrrr!

Elizabeth looked closely at the Artic Circle.  The Artic Circle is an imaginary line on the earth that shows where the top part of the globe is.  The North Pole is at the very tippy top.

Then Elizabeth found where we live in Pennsylvania and looked how far away Yellowknife is from Camp Hill!   Wow!

“Lets find where Martin lives.” said Elizabeth.  Martin is Elizabeth’s cousin who lives in Tanzania.  So her daddy found Dar es Salaam, Tanzania on the globe and they looked at how far THAT is from Camp Hill.  Whoa!

Elizabeth found the Equator, which is an imaginary line around the middle of the earth.  Martin lives on the other side of the Equator!

Then Elizabeth looked for CA where Barabas’s father lives.  You may remember that Frank Heffelfinger is the janitor at Disney Internet Group on Lenkershim Blvd. in North Hollywood.

“I guess Barabas’s father will come to visit at Christmas,” Elizabeth said absentmindedly, then added “. . . ohboyChristmasiscoming!: in a burst of excitement.  “Oh boy it is almost Thanksgiving and then it will be Christmas!  Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy!” she shouted and jumped around the house!   “”Christmas is coming!”

“You know, Elizabeth, Christmas is much more than just getting presents.” admonished her father.

“Yes, I know Daddy.  It is when we celebrate the birth of Jesus in Bethlehem.”

“That’s right.  And it is also a time when we prepare ourselves for the second coming of Jesus.  Did you know that Jesus will come again?”

“I . . . I don’t think I knew that,” Elizabeth said, a bit surprised.

Elizabeth and her daddy talked a bit about when Jesus might come again to the earth.  It seems we don’t very often talk about that.  At the end of time, when the earth is finished, God will send his son Jesus, to earth a second time, for Him to show us the way to heaven.  We call it ‘The Second Coming.”

In today’s lesson from Job this morning it says:

“FOR I KNOW THAT MY REDEEMER LIVES, AND THAT
IN THE END HE WILL STAND UPON THE EARTH.”

After their little talk, Elizabeth went over and looked at the globe again and pictured Jesus standing there.

And then, as she left the room, she said in a tiny little voice that her father barely heard “Christmas is coming! Christmas is coming!”

THE END
