“Everyone”
Isaiah 49:6, 1 Corinthians 1:9, John 1:39
January 20, 2008
By Rebecca Enney

Everybody is here!   Everyone who has ever been in one of my stories is on this table! (I think!)   That’s a lot of characters.  I’m not even going to try to introduce you to all of them.

And they are all divided into groups.  Running Chairs started it by saying “Like, you know, if you have like 4 legs, because you know I have four legs and if you are like a horse, like me, because, you know I am a horse and you, you know, would you just trot over, like here!”  So all the horses are gathered here.  Pastor Ed wondered what this was going to be about.

And then Frank asked that all those who are bottle/vase people to gather with him.  That would be Barabas and Nurse Fran and the Bishop.  All two legged characters are over here with the Church Secretary.  And the two bears are here.

Aunt Gertrude said “All the tallest and smartest characters are gathered here.  That would be only giraffes of course, because giraffes are superior beings.”  So there are a lot of giraffes here with Aunt Gertrude, including Elizabeth.

“Well, well, well!” said Mr. Potato Head the Son.  “I need for my wonderful family to gather here please.”

They are all kind of mashed together over here!

Mr. Gym Teacher and his father Pat are standing out here in left field.  The three dogs in my stories are here too.  And that means everyone is in a group.

Well, almost everyone.  I guess there is no group for cats.  So that means that Walter the Cat is left out.  “I guess I just don’t fit.” sighed Walter.

It’s no fun being left out.  And no matter who we are, there are probably times when we are left out.  Maybe we are not athletic enough, or not musical enough or not funny enough or are not wearing the right clothes.  Or maybe we don’t come often enough to be noticed.  Who even remembers Walter the Cat?  Whatever the reason, sometimes we just don’t seem to fit in.

This happens at school and at work and unfortunately, it also happens in the church.  Not that Jesus WANTS this to happen in the church.  Jesus NEVER wants someone to be left out.  Jesus wants for his love and “salvation to reach to the end of the earth.”  That’s what is says in this mornings lessons.

Here these characters have been called into these little groups that keep out everyone who doesn’t fit in.

However, God has called ALL into the fellowship of his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.  It says that too, in this mornings lessons.  Some groups keep people out.  The CHURCH invites EVERYONE to come in!

You and I have an important job to do in this fellowship.  Whenever we look around and see someone who is left out of the church, we need to invite them to come, to Sunday School, to worship with us.  And if the person, or potato or horse or giraffe that you invite says “Where do you go to church.” you can say “COME AND SEE.”

“I reckon we’d like to have you be with us at church.” said Uncle Floyd to Walter the Cat.

“Where do you go to church?” asked Walter the Cat.

“COME AND SEE.” said Uncle Floyd.

Because, that’s what it says in this mornings lessons.

THE END
