| Nave Altar
Care |
Ministry Support
Area: Worship
Description: Serve as part of a
Nave Altar Care team for
services in the nave and chapel. Men, women,
husband and wife teams, family teams, life partner
teams, just friends teams, any and all are encouraged to
serve as part of an Altar Care Team. Nave
Altar Care Teams set up for communion each Sunday and at
all special services in the nave throughout the year and
clean up after the services. Two people are
required for communion by intinction services and four
people are required for rail communion services because
of the additional setup and cleanup and the need to wash
the individual chalices. In addition, the altar
candles in the nave need to be filled with oil each
week. The Nave Altar Care Teams are also
responsible for the care of the altar linens and the
pastor's robes and for changing the nave and chapel
paraments as necessary.
Frequency: There are 12 altar care teams.
For the month that your team is scheduled, you are asked to serve at least two Sundays for communion setup and cleanup and one or two times for
candle filling and checking robes. You are welcome to serve on additional
Sundays and on more than one team.
Time requirement: For those services for which you
are committed to serving, 45 minutes before the service
for setup to 30 minutes after the service for cleanup.
Candle filling and checking robes takes approximately 45
minutes and can be done almost any time during the week
that the church building is open. In addition, you
may be asked to help change the paraments in the nave
and chapel when there is a change in church season or
their is a special Sunday that required different
paraments. Changing paraments requires
approximately one hour.
