Affirmation of Faith/Inquirers Classes

Affirmation of Faith/Inquirers Classes are held three times each year - starting in September, January and April.  The classes are designed to give the participants an understanding of Trinity and its ministries, to gain a deeper understanding of the Lutheran expression of our Christian faith, to get to know the pastors and the other members of the program staff and to meet other people who share their interest in Trinity.

The sessions are held on six consecutive Sundays in the Church Library from 9:30 a.m. to 10:35 a.m. with coffee, tea and informal conversation starting at 9:15 a.m.  Those who elect to become members of Trinity join at a service of their choice the week following the sixth session.  The sessions include presentations on:

  • Law and Gospel - The Lutheran Perspective  (Law and Gospel -- This is at the core of Lutheran theology.  In a nutshell, "Law and Gospel" refers to our human predicament of sin, and God's choosing to save us in spite of ourselves.  We have failed to live out God's will (his Law) for us in perfect obedience.  That's the Law convicting us.  But, God has revealed himself in love and mercy through the good news (the Gospel) of Jesus Christ, who died to forgive us our sins.  That's the Gospel bringing us salvation and into a new and right relationship with God.  When "Law and Gospel" are rightly understood, we recognize both our inability to make it on our own, and our need for our savior Jesus Christ.)

  • The Sacraments - Holy Baptism and Holy Communion - For more information about what Holy Communion is, what it means and its importance, follow this link to read Pastor Hardy’s sermon from August 20, 2006.

  • Preaching and the Visible Word

  • Overview of the Bible: Creation to Trinity Lutheran Church's ministry

  • Learning opportunities at Trinity

  • Youth ministry at Trinity

  • Music ministries at Trinity - Liturgics, history, our organ, contemporary worship

  • Stewardship

by Pastors Stew Hardy, John Brock and Nancy Easton, by Director of Learning Ministries Christopher Couch, by Director of Youth Ministry Peter Fox, by Director of Music Ministries Tim Koch and by Director of Music for Contemporary Worship Debbie Wilson.

Those who choose to become members of Trinity, do so on the sixth weekend at the service of their choice.  So please join us at the Affirmation of Faith/Inquirers classes to help you prayerfully determine if the Lutheran expression of our Christian faith, and Trinity in particular, are right for you.

The current schedule for the next Affirmation of Faith classes is:

  • 2008 - September 14, 21, 28, October 5,12, 19 and receive new members on October 26.     Click here for a draft of the Affirmation of Faith class schedule for September/October 2008 and the presenters and their topics for each session.
