Affirmation of Faith/Inquirers
Classes are held three times each year - starting in September, January and
April. The classes are designed to give the participants
an understanding of Trinity and its ministries, to
gain a deeper understanding of the Lutheran
expression of our Christian faith, to get to know
the pastors and the other members of the program
staff and to meet other people who share their
interest in Trinity.
The sessions are
held on six consecutive Sundays in the Church
Library from 9:30 a.m. to 10:35 a.m. with coffee,
tea and informal conversation starting at 9:15 a.m.
Those who elect to become members of Trinity join at
a service of their choice the week following the
sixth session. The sessions include presentations on:
-
Law and Gospel -
The Lutheran Perspective (Law and Gospel --
This is at the core of Lutheran theology. In a
nutshell, "Law and Gospel" refers to our human
predicament of sin, and God's choosing to save
us in spite of ourselves. We have failed to
live out God's will (his Law) for us in perfect
obedience. That's the Law convicting us. But,
God has revealed himself in love and mercy
through the good news (the Gospel) of Jesus
Christ, who died to forgive us our sins. That's
the Gospel bringing us salvation and into a new
and right relationship with God. When "Law and
Gospel" are rightly understood, we recognize
both our inability to make it on our own,
and our need for our savior
Jesus Christ.)
