Affirmation of Faith Classes
"Disciples in the Making, Making Disciples"

We are disciples in the making, making disciples, and we are glad you are interested in joining us at Trinity Lutheran Church.  We encourage anyone considering becoming a new disciple to attend a six week course led by our pastors and program staff.  The Affirmation of Faith classes are held three times each year - starting in September, January and April.  The classes are designed to give the participants an understanding of Trinity and its ministries, to gain a deeper understanding of the Lutheran expression of our Christian faith, to get to know the pastors and the other members of the program staff and to meet other people who share their interest in Trinity.

The sessions are held on six consecutive Sundays in the Church Library from 9:30 a.m. to 10:35 a.m. with coffee, tea and informal conversation starting at 9:15 a.m.  Those who elect to become new disciples at Trinity are received at a service of their choice the weekend following the sixth session.  The sessions include presentations on:

  • Law and Gospel - The Lutheran Perspective  (Law and Gospel -- This is at the core of Lutheran theology.  In a nutshell, "Law and Gospel" refers to our human predicament of sin, and God's choosing to save us in spite of ourselves.  We have failed to live out God's will (his Law) for us in perfect obedience.  That's the Law convicting us.  But, God has revealed himself in love and mercy through the good news (the Gospel) of Jesus Christ, who died to forgive us our sins.  That's the Gospel bringing us salvation and into a new and right relationship with God.  When "Law and Gospel" are rightly understood, we recognize both our inability to make it on our own, and our need for our savior Jesus Christ.)

  • The Sacraments - Holy Baptism and Holy Communion.

  • Preaching and the Visible Word

  • Overview of the Bible: Creation to Trinity Lutheran Church's ministry

  • Learning opportunities at Trinity

  • Youth ministry at Trinity

  • Music ministries at Trinity - Liturgics, history, our organ, contemporary worship

  • Stewardship

by Pastors Glenn Ludwig, John Brock and Nancy Easton, by Director of Learning Ministries Christopher Couch, by Director of Youth Ministry Peter Fox, by Director of Music Ministries Tim Koch and by Director of Music for Contemporary Worship Debbie Wilson.

Those who choose to become new disciples at Trinity, do so on the seventh weekend at the service of their choice.  So please join us at the Affirmation of Faith classes to help you prayerfully determine if the Lutheran expression of our Christian faith, and Trinity in particular, are right for you.

The current schedule for the next Affirmation of Faith classes is:

  • 2010 - September 19, 26, October 3, 10, 17, 24 with the Reception of New Disciples on the weekend of October 30/31.
  • 2011 - February 27, March 6, 13, 20, 27, April 3 with the Reception of New Disciples on the weekend of April 9/10.
