Leader: We adore you, O Christ, and we bless you.
All: By your holy cross you have redeemed the world.

A reading from John 19:28-30: Jesus, seeing that everything had been completed so that the Scripture record might also be complete, then said, “I’m thirsty.” A jug of sour wine was standing by. Someone put a sponge soaked with the wine on a javelin and lifted it to his mouth. After he took the wine, Jesus said, “It’s done . . . complete.” Bowing his head, he offered up his spirit.

Let us pray: God, our Father, Your Son gave everything to fulfill your will and show all humankind the depth of your love for your creation. His mission complete, he gave up his spirit to you, so that we might be able to experience that same spirit in the joy of his resurrection. In Jesus’ name, Amen

(May be sung or said) Were you there when he died upon the cross? Were you there when he died upon the cross? Oh sometimes it causes me to tremble, tremble, tremble. Were you there when he died upon the cross?
